The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia is back in merger discussions with its provincial counterparts at the Institute of Chartered Accountants and Certified Management Accountants.
CGA B.C. joins a growing list of CGA associations, in Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador, who are also in merger talks in their respective jurisdictions. CPA Quebec has already been established.
CGA B.C. decided to return to the discussion table for several reasons, according to chief executive officer Gordon Ruth. A key factor was the creation of a national CPA body in January, along with evidence of progress in merger developments in various provinces across Canada, including B.C., where the ICA B.C. and CMA B.C. have already agreed to merge.
